Sean Payton says he was up til 4AM this morning. Then he went back to his hotel room. And he wasn't alone:

"[The Lombardi Trophy] laid in my bed next to me,” said Payton, all bleary-eyed and looking like he may have celebrated a little. “I rolled over a couple times, and I probably drooled on it, man. Nothing like being an NFL coach and being part of this with great players like Drew Brees. I don’t take that lightly. I’m honored.”

My advice for you singles out there: Go the Sean Payton route. Become an assistant coach in college, then move up and become an assistant coach the NFL, then become a head coach, then sign a free agent franchise quarterback, then win the Super Bowl. Ping. You don't wake up alone the next day. Suck on that, eHarmony.com!

EarthCam.com gives us a live view of Bourbon Street. Of course it's nothing like it was twelve hours ago or so. But it's early. There'll be plenty of time to live vicariously through the drunken revelers. So pop open a bottle of Jim Bean, take off your shirt, kick back and relax and enjoy the festivities.

The camera's original intent was to capture Mardi Gras, which starts tomorrow. But since the Saints are now Super Bowl champs, we get to see the crazy happen a little early.

Good to know that the street cleaners and sweepers can wash off the confetti and vomit so thoroughly. Need this place spic-n-span if we're gonna have thousands of drunks dancing through the streets flashing their boobies at each other.

It's gonna be great!

Let's just kick this thing off by saying: Holy crapcakes this game could go either way!

The Colts and Saints both feature semi-truck running over your face offenses. They both have solid enough defenses to get the job done. But let's face it, this thing's probably going to come down to whoever has the ball last. And then a kicker will inevitably trot out and attempt a game-winning field goal. And, in keeping with the Worst Season For Kickers Ever, said kicker will just explode into a cloud of dust.

So let's hope that doesn't happen. What will happen? Well, the Super Bowl XLIV Blog is here to tell you. Quick! To the totally meaningless conjecture and analysis machine, Robin!

Will the Saints put up their usual big numbers?

Hey there Super Bowl XLIV Blog readers. Hi. Hello. How's it goin?

Well the big day is finally here! And despite what ESPN claims to know, the winner has not yet been decided. That, dear readers, will be decided on the field. And wherever you might be watching the big game, we want to invite you to come on by and join CBSSports.com's Super Bowl Live Chat, hosted by yours truly, Chris Joseph, and also featuring in-game analysis from CBSSports.com writer Eric Kay.

Eric will surely supply his insight and vast football acumen in the chat while I complain how it is that since I've worked with CBSSports why I have yet to meet my idol, Dan Marino.
The Saints held their final practice session on Saturday, and so far still only have corner back Randall Gay (illness) and Lyle Hamilton (ankle) as their sole injury concerns. Gay has been suffering from a cold, but head coach Sean Payton expects him to play. Payton is not as sure about Hamilton, who has been nursing a sore ankle, but the coach remains optimistic.

When last we heard from the Colts, all their star players were spontaneously combusting all over the place. Indianapolis also held their final walkthrough practice Saturday morning. Dwight Freeney (ankle!) sat out practice again. Corner back Jerraud Powers (foot) did some light work. Head coach Jim Caldwell said both are considered day-to-day. As for Reggie Wayne, he returned to practice Saturday after leaving 20 minutes early Friday when he re-aggravated his right knee.

ESPN is not only The World Wide Leader In Sports, they are also apparently The World Wide Leader In Knowing Our Destinies & All Future Events. On this particular poll (man does ESPN love them some polls!) ESPN asks you, the reader, to rank all the quarterbacks in NFL history who have won one Super Bowl. And it lists Drew Brees as the most recent one-Super Bowl title winner:

After completing the best season in New Orleans Saints history, Drew Brees has finally won his first Super Bowl. Brees' lone Super Bowl victory puts him on an eclectic list of starting quarterbacks with one title to their names. From all-time greats like Brett Favre to big personalities like Jim McMahon, 18 men have started and won pro football's biggest game but once in their careers. So there you go. Aside from the fact that ESPN is keeping from us vital information about the future -- such as, when exactly will the damn dirty apes take over or when and where exactly will our robot overlords land their massive fleet of UFOs -- they've also just ruined Super Bowl Sunday for all of us by revealing the winner. No need to bother watching the game now. We already know the outcome. Thanks a lot ESPN! Jerks!

Reports out of Colts camp this afternoon is that Reggie Wayne left practice early after pulling up short on a route.

The four-time Pro Bowl receiver left practice 20 minutes early after aggravating an injured right knee. Coach Jim Caldwell said Wayne hurt the soft tissue below his kneecap. Wayne is listed as probable and Caldwell plans on him playing against New Orleans. Wayne got through the injury most of the season.

This might be nothing, seeing that Reggie basically played the entire season with a bad knee. And he is expected to start and play Sunday. But it's got to be a little disconcerting for Colts fans that two of their star players are banged up before the big game. It's ironic that this is happening given the fact that Indy sat down their starters and opted not to chase a perfect season just to avoid this kind of thing.

The Super Bowl is just a couple of days away now (finally!)

And that means a lot of over-analysis and conjecture. But it's all good fun, so let's dive in as kickoff approaches:

Brett Martell tells us that the Saints high-powered offense led by Drew Brees will be unlike anything the Colts defense have seen thus far:

In their previous two postseason wins, the Colts lined up against two of the NFL's youngest and least experienced quarterbacks: Baltimore's Joe Flacco and the New York Jets' Mark Sanchez... With an offense that led the NFL in yards and scoring, the Saints have the ability to outscore Peyton Manning and the Colts. That is why New Orleans could celebrate its first NFL title on Sunday night.

But it's all good fun, so let's dive in as kickoff approaches:

Michael Marot tells us why Peyton Manning's wizardry will win the Colts their second Super Bowl in three years:

While you're playing checkers, he's playing chess -- and he's always two moves ahead.... With seven days to study film of an opponent, Manning has no problems finding creases in a defense. With two weeks to break down the Saints, the best student to ever play the game will take advantage of every crack.

Because nothing says "let's party!" like collective bargaining agreements and labor strife!

Among the attendees were Emmitt Smith, Hall of Famer Tony Dorsett, Bengals linebacker (and TV star!)
This column in today's Miami Herald reminds us that the Super Bowl is all about the parties. And the game. But mostly, the parties:

In Miami, [Jim Beam] will take over the posh Wish restaurant on Ocean Drive Saturday and transform it into a ``man cave'' where guests (male and female) can play arcade games and loaf on recliners. The daytime promotion will close to the public in the evening, when Jim Beam will bring in about 60 invited guests.

And former Giants defensive end Michael Strahan agrees. It's all about the parties:

At a party Thursday, he said: "By the time you get through the partying, who cares about the game, to be honest with you." He added: "If you party right, the game is the last thing you worry about, you wake up in the fourth quarter."

Let's face it. Most NFL team logos are lame. The Cowboys: a star. Really? How original. The Colts have a shoehorn. Meh I guess that's old school. The Dolphins have a fish with a hole in its head jumping through a hoop. The Jets have the words 'JETS.' I guess so the fans can be reminded what they're called? Don't even get me started with the Browns (it's not even brown!! the hell??) and Steelers (twinkly things, and on only one side of the helmet?). The Chargers have a lightning bolt and... oh, wait... a lightning bolt is actually kind of awesome.

Anyway, the Saints have the Fleur-de-lis on their helmets. And I'm willing to bet most people have no earthly idea what that whole thing is about. Well guess who does. Drew Brees, that's who. Some smartypants journalist tried to throw a curve ball of a question about the Saints logo at him, but Brees carved him up with knowledge like he carves up secondaries with his arm:

It's pretty clear that the Saints are America's team entering Sunday's game. The underdog status, the history of the franchise, the recent history of the city, Who Dat Nation, Drew Brees, Bobby Hebert in a dress. All the elements are there. They're the sentimental favorite.

Well the Colts would like to tell your sentimentality to suck it, because they're here to spoil the party. And they know it:

"It's amazing to see the Saints in the Super Bowl," the Colts receiver said Wednesday. "I remember growing up and thinking it would happen, and it never worked out that way. To see what it has come to is just great. Now, unfortunately, I've got to be the bad guy, but like I say I've got Bills to pay."

You hear that, America? What's gonna pay for Reggie's gold-trimmed bedsheets and his fleet of hovercrafts? A Super Bowl winner's paycheck, that's what.

The Huffington Post gives us the Top 10 New Orleans Songs found on YouTube.

All ten videos are there for you to peruse, and some are better than others. Although I wouldn't recommend listening to all of them back-to-back because it might cause you to run around your work place flashing your boobs at random co-workers and demanding they throw beads at you.

The more I think about it, the more I think I want the Saints to win the Super Bowl.

PFT found a quote by Colts tight end Dallas Clark, basically saying he has no earthly idea what Who Dat means.

"I have no idea what it means," Clark said. "No reason to care. That's not a good thing I don't think. I sure that's a good thing for them so hopefully we don't hear it too much. I just don't know the story behind what that's about."

Really?

Look, we know it's not immediately obvious, but anyone with the slightest bit of natural curiosity (and access to a computer) should be able to figure it out.

TMZ.com reported yesterday that Saints running back Reggie Bush and a few of his teammates were spotted walking out of a club on South Beach at 3:30 AM Monday morning.

I suppose this is newsworthy. A major player from a Super Bowl team partying the night away on South Beach days before the big game.

Or not. This is Reggie Bush. Of the New Orleans Saints.

Being out til 3 AM on a Monday is actually a law in some parts of New Orleans.

In case you missed it, this year's Super Bowl Media Day was the most banal yet!

No one wearing dog collars. No one proposing marriage to any player. No one dressed in drag. There was, however, a guy holding a sign telling Saints players he needed to pee. Sgt. Floyd Pepper from the Muppets apparently made an appearance. Oh and look! Indianapolis practice squad quarterback Drew Willy! Being interviewed by someone from the Jay Leno Show! Oh the hilarity that will certainly ensue!

There was also a Telemundo anchor wearing wings wandering the premises and asking Colts players to put on a cowboy hat and buck like a bronco. Because these guys play for a team named after a horse, you see. Oh and there was another Telemundo guy with a puppet. But everyone pretty much ignored him, so no one knows what that was about.

The big news coming out of Media Day so far is, not surprisingly, Dwight Freeney's ankle.

"Hopefully, towards the end of the week it starts to get better," Freeney said at Tuesday's media day. "The decision will come later on in the week. It's kind of early now."

"The competitor in me says they'll never stop me from being on the field. There's some pain there definitely with throwing everything at it, all types of techniques to find the best thing to get this thing as good as possible. You name it, I've probably done it."

Freeney walked up to his Media Day podium wearing sandals, and it was like someone had removed a curtain to unveil the world's first unicorn in captivity. Flashbulbs and camera crews maniacally focused on Freeney's right foot.

So late Sunday it was reported that Dwight Freeney had a third-degree ankle sprain. And yesterday Colts head coach Jim Caldwell confirmed that report. But, Caldwell called Freeney a "quick healer" (like Wolverine, if that reference helps you), so it sounds like the Colts' thinking is he will play.

But Caldwell then told reporters that the Colts are preparing their game plan as if Freeney won't play.

Meanwhile, Drew Brees told the Times-Picayune that the Saints are preparing their game plan as if Freeney will play.

And Hashmarks gives us a list of players with bad injuries prior to their respective Super Bowls who did end up playing.

Just when the Colts were pledging to not engage in a war of words, and things seemed to be cordial and professional between the two combatants for this Sunday's Super Bowl showdown, the trash talking has begun. Straight up, no holds-barred, in your face smack. And it's starting with Peyton Manning and Darren Sharper:

Peyton Manning referred to Darren Sharper as "Jamie" during an interview Sunday night. Manning was apparently pretending to confuse the Saints' free safety with former Ravens and Texans linebacker Jamie Sharper. Jamie has been out of football since 2005.

According to Mike Garafolo of the Newark Star-Ledger, Sharper got back at the Colts' quarterback by calling him "Eli" on Monday.

Awww yea!!!!.... It's on now! Sunday's gonna be a ....

Former Saints quarterback Bobby Hebert once told late New Orleans radio host Buddy Diliberto that if the Saints ever reached the Super Bowl, he would dress like a woman and sashay his pretty little self down the streets of New Orleans.

Oh hey, guess what.

Well yesterday Hebert made good on his promise with thousands of other cross-dressers as they paraded down the French Quarter. (That's Hebert in the bottom right corner)

Hebert led the festivities in a black-and-gold secquened mumu designed and sent from New York by his daughter, Cammie Lynn, as described in Saturday's Daily News. "It was above and beyond anything I expected," said Hebert, who estimated the crowd of participants and spectators at 50,000. "I couldn't even walk. They had to put me on top of a float. It was 50 degrees but everybody had enough antifreeze in them."
